JAFO....get real Roll Eyes

I would never let my family play for that coach. I do not need to justify my identity to you. Though you should know me.

The incident in grapevine really hit me hard and maybe it mellowed me a bit. I am sure by summerball (or playoffs) I will be ready to go after I pay my $50 tryout fee!! Big Grin Big Grin

What did my fav coach do now?

Hey Fried Eggs, your personality doesn't exactly bring on visions of Cary Grant or Jimmy Stewart. And I am sure I would want my boys playing for you.

Not that I have a lot of room to call a kettle black but if someone could describe the FM game ( helecop) and what happened in the game then maybe we could have something to talk about.

Actually, I have been checking out the box scores on the FM site and they have a lot to be proud of ...so far. I would love to hear about their games from one of their parents or boosters.

$50 tryout fee? I heard you were in and counting on several innings from you to help relieve the starting rotation. Summerball, can't wait! Should we put Coppell in the state finals and let everyone play it out to see who plays them in Austin?

Great job today, East. Enjoyed visiting with 5sdad and the moderator man, PD. All highschool webbers should be so lucky as to meet these two gentlemen and their talented sons.

Ok, funny TBD, funny: So just in case you missed the box score...and to show some respect and humility:

Coppell vs. Plano East at Tyde Classic Friday, March 2, 2007

Game Summary
Coppell 2 Plano East 5
Box score R H E
Coppell 2 4 1
Plano East 5 5 2

Individual Leaders

WP--Blake Bostwick. LP--Cole Green. 2B--COP: Austin Elkins 1.

Yes, Plano East won the game and the tournament:

The food for thought is: PE has split with Arlington Martin - losing 8-9 and winning 7-6, Coppell beat AM 14-3, but that was at the end of a tournament when most team don't have any pitching left....Coppell did.

My other thought was that at first glance of District 9-5A, I originally didn't think PE would make it out of the District but now I know that District might be as hard or harder than 6-5A.

Have a good day TBD
Plano East versus Coppell (Friday):

Coppell had a tough time with Plano East's Bostwick, who did an excellent job keeping the hitters off-balance by throwing his breaking pitches for strikes early in the count. Bostwick is 2-0 and has been effective with a number of pitches. Interstingly, several pitchers from both teams are students of Jack Giese, who specializes in finding a pitcher's strength -- TCA is fortunately to have him on board. Plano East showed early patience against Green and loaded the bases in the first. A sharp grounder to 1B resulted in the first run and a SF from freshman Conner Zmolik (after a 7-pitch AB) plated the 2nd run. Cole's arm was tender, so Coach English had to go to the pen early, bringing Reynolds out of CF. Reynonds did a nice job and the score remained close into the 5th. He did walk 7...but in fairness, his mental preparation included playing OF and leading off the order. Kettler relieved in the 5th -- again, entering the game from his position at SS. In a district setting, Coach English would have a reliever(s) on the side....fully warm in the bullpen. Kettler surrendered a few "insurance" runs in his inning of work. Kaskow relieved (from 1B) in the 6th and picked a guy off 2nd with the bases loaded. (watch the trick plays, Panthers!) Smile East drew 10 walks in the game.

We all know Coppell is loaded -- offensively and on the mound. They played 3 sophomores -- some of the best in the area. But East is young as well, with a FR and SO in the lineup --- two kids that are really swinging the bat well right now. The win was more of a boost for East than a letdown for Coppell, I think. The credit in this game goes to Blake Bostwick, who accepted his challenge and responded! Last year, Brady Hamar came out of "no where" (relatively speaking) to make a strong contribution on the mound for East during his senior season. This year, there are 3-4 guys ready to contribute.

Concerning 9-5A, many see it as a weak district on paper -- nothing like 6-5A. But Wylie and Berkner and LH had been impressive in the preseason -- and Allen will be tough. I think the district will be stronger than anticipated.

The Cowboys will be there at the end in 6-5A -- there will be numerous great battles -- with no clear cut top 4. Classy move by the Cowboys in attending the funeral in Colleyville before their Saturday game -- I wish more teams could shown their support in that way. As we all get competitive in the weeks to come, remember that there are hundreds of kids with outstanding character, leading their teams.

As for the Tyde Classic -- it was preaseason and East played well in all aspects of the game. In my opinion (which means little), Arlington Marin has one of the best offensive teams in the area, right there with Poteet, Waxahachie, FM. East hasn't gotten Will Keiser out in 4 years! Smile

Tuesday -- district game -- time to get serious!

-PD Cool

PS -- has anyone considered the possibility that Train is a woman? Eek

PD- With Farhat, Emens, Slater, Snider and other Panthers, Plano East can match up with any team.

Well, we didn't see it on Friday. I think PD was wise to give the credit to a well pitched game by Bostwick. Neither offense showed up in the game. In fact I think PE left 20 guys on base and Coppell left 12. The 5 hits PE had ( really only 4 but the scorer didn't want to give Coppell the E) were not memorable. I did notice that PE did score over 40 runs in The Tyde but I didn't see a whole bunch of pitching from the other clubs in the tournament.

Coppell's line-up is stout and there are few teams in the state that come close to Kaskow,Green,Castillio,Watten,Elkins,English, Kettler, Reynolds, Walsh and the bench can hit as well. Coach English actually uses a leadoff hitter in the 9 spot so he can get you coming and going. In most games the opposing pitcher doesn't get a rest.

Wow, how many of us would have thought of that.

FO, I expect more out of you than just low level baiting. I know you have opinions. Please share your wisdom with us.

I am sure every coach would use a line-up with speed and bat management at the top and bottom of the order if they could. My point is that this year Coppell can. I am not saying they are a lone in that area just making an OBSERVATION.

What I am really waiting for is the FM faithful to start sharing but I heard their coach forbid them from commenting.

FM is off to an excellent start and they have a good line-up as well. But at this point, do they know who the 2nd starter is, ZN looks to have a lock the front stop but the 2 spot looks to be up for graps, Bruenning, Doran, Morris, or maybe the Freshman Henderson? Any one with any insight came to share?

Meatsdad -- our scorer called it an error, even though it was a tough play -- so, we had it 4 hits apiece. PE had 12 LOB, Coppell 6. I agree it wasn't great offense but it's still a win for the good guys -- memorable hits or not. Smile

And I never understood the 9-hole leadoff thing -- how many times does a leadoff hitter actually "leadoff". People are trying to invent genius where it doesn't exist. Coppell may be 6-7 deep in the order where most good teams are 5-6. The best teams will get consistent .280 - .315 hitting from 7-9....unless their team ERA is under 3 <-- then they can win with less.

FM has a tie, Coppell has a loss -- 4-5 more tournament games to play. Better watch out for Marcus, Lewisville, and Hebron.

PD,

Your right it doesn't seem to play out that often but at least 3 times this weekend it worked for Coppell. I think it is used more to cover the back half of the line-up and not give the pitcher an easy inning more than anything. I do wonder if anyone has numbers on how effective it is.. or not.

At this point Coppell is 8 deep but some batters might come back to the pack which would be normal.

Glad to see your scorer is fair.

As for District 6-5A, their isn't a boy on Coppell's team or a coach in the dug-out that doesn't know that every Tuesday and Friday will be WAR. Even the two bottom teams will be coming after each and every top team with their pride in hand and a deterination not to make it easy on any of us. Hebron is a school and a team that knows how to win, just ask our basketball team. As for the parents, we might souns brave online but at home we are reminding our sons to not leave anything on any playing field or they could find our selves on the outside looking in. The PE game was a wake-up, in the sense of what if Cole doesn't win all the game we hope he does, I was glad to see they bounced back and I beleive we have 5 pitchers that could be 2's other places, maybe even a couple of boys that could be the 1's elsewhere.

Everyone is right about district 6-5A, it is going to be a war every Tuesday and Friday night. Coppell, FM, Lewisville, FM Marcus, Hebron, with Newman Smith, RLT, and Creekview bringing up the rear. After having my step-son play At Marcus I'm hoping that Chumbley and his Maurauders make the playoffs. Not everyone like Chumbley's ways, but he a solid coach who I would not want to meet in a playoff series.
Speaking of Coppell baseball, can I just express my heart felt appreciation to the entire Coppell HS varsity team and coaches for attending Chris Gavora's funeral service (in full uniform before their game on Saturday.) I believe that gesture was deeply felt by all GHS baseball players, coaches and parents.

Along with our GCISD sister school Colleyville Heritage varsity baseball team, their attendance will be forever noted by those of us who are searching for ways to guide our boys through this tragedy.

So, a tip of the cap to those young men and their coaches.

OK, OK, FM is winning, but with only 5-7 hits a game, how long can it last? Seem to be leaving some good bats on the bench a lot.

Gotta have pitching too. Neal looks solid, but FM's preseason No. 2 is getting lit up every time he touches the mound (but he does continue to hit well). Bruenig, Morris & the kid Henderson all look pretty good, though no ones seems to know if the kid will go back to JV after tournament play. Could go either way. The team is young with 4 sophomores in the line up, but lots of potential.

And I know I started this, but I promised my spousal unit I would lay off the coach for a bit. Stay tuned.
