Hi all, I need some help. My son is transferring from his D1 program. He will be taking classes remotely this Spring but we are beginning the process to transfer for Fall '21 and he wants to play somewhere.  He is looking into a dual enrollment with a community college near us so he can play this spring and will play in a summer league.

What we don't know is how to phrase emails or what to say in phone calls to the CC coaches (for a possible spring opportunity) and then with possible contacting coaches transfer situations. The culture and environment were not what he was looking for at his current school.

Any verbiage would be a huge help. Didn't anticipate this scenario. And certainly not at the end of this horrible, torturous year for so many.

Happy holidays to all! Stay safe and thanks in advance for your wisdom and guidance.

Most JC's would be happy to give a D1 dropdown a good look/opportunity.  But, if there was a negative fallout and the coaches happen to know each other, that could be an issue.  Without knowing more specifics of how your son's situation evolved, where he was and where he wants to go, we can't really advise smartly to verbiage or direction.  Totally understandable, though, if you would rather not share.

If he'll be heading to a local juco he can really just drop by the ath dept and introduce himself and explain the situation. They'll easily give him a look and they'll probably be happy to have him.

If he's looking at ranked jucos that send 7+ guys to D1 baseball every year then he needs to know what he's getting himself into.

Was he cut or does he not like the school/program, does he want to be closer to home? I ask because if he was cut, he's going to have to do some work. Theres a difference between a D1 dropdown and a D1 tryout. The former has a workable resume, the latter does not. But I also ask because - does his coach know? If it was a numbers thing or a homesick thing the coach could probably pick up a phone and make a call.
