Texas redshirt freshman QB G.J. Kinne has elected to transfer, he confirmed Friday. Kinne will depart the Longhorns program after one season, but has not yet determined where he will transfer.

"I chose the best school at what was the end of a very successful, but difficult high school career," Kinne said. "I have definitely become a better quarterback with the help of one of the most knowledgeable offensive coaches in college football, Greg Davis. However, the quarterback position is unique in terms of playing time, and I have to find a program that best fits my skills.

"Quarterbacks transfer in college football. That's life for this position.
I've made great memories, great friends and have been blessed with experiences most can only watch. So the answer is, 'No, I have no regrets.'

"I'm looking forward to what the future holds for me. I wish nothing but great things for The University of Texas. I appreciate all that Coach Brown and The University have done for me."

Kinne, a graduate of Gilmer High School in Gilmer, Texas, was a valuable member of the Longhorns' scout team offense during his redshirt season in 2007. He was a two-time 3A Offensive Player of the Year at Gilmer and finished his prep career ranked second in Texas high school history in passing yards (11,695) and in TD passes (130).

"G.J. is a great young man and has added a lot to our program in his time at Texas," Brown said. "Even though we hate to see him go, we understand he wants to play. We wish him lots of luck and will continue to follow his progress."

Kinne originally committed to Baylor befor changing his mind and signing with Texas.

Maybe he did make a mistake, that happens often, obviously. This is a great example of perhaps not thinking things through.
He committed to Baylor than changed his mind and went to Texas now leaving.
He may have bit off more than he could chew and will have to sit if he transfers to a D1 (which I bet he won't as he loses a year of doing nothing). That would be two years of sitting.

Good luck to the player.

I have read many posts recently about bad parents, playing time, and that crapola.

What I didn't read is that we are all human, and subjected to the same emotional revelations when it comes to our own kids.

When a kid makes a change in choice, many are quick to judge.

Don't forget we are all in the same boat. Some just show it more. Cool

There are unique reasons for each choice made. When that decision is made, our best course of response is support and a good wish of success!!

You very well could be right TPM. Or, perhaps he saw the situation in front of him and didn't feel like having to "earn" his spot by working hard and waiting his turn. We all know that many a great athlete has done their time waiting in the wings, working hard, being loyal to the team and coach until the time comes for them to step in and perform.

It was recently reported that adults who frequently change jobs on a consistent basis may suffer from adult ADD. http://www.additudemag.com/additude/article/862.html Could it be that maybe some of these kids also suffer this? If they aren't getting the playing time early, go to another program...etc. etc.?? Just a thought.

Interesting isn't it. Transfered in HS, father was Baylor assistant (where he first commited) then went to Texas, now wants to transfer.

Do you think this is really all the players's idea?

Is class 3A the more difficult class in texas?

Proves that there's always more to the story.

I wonder how much of this ADD type of behavior can be blamed on TV habits. Maybe it's a conditioned response.

I'm not surprised...

Nice late add-on there Young. How long did you have to think about it.

Anyway, out of respect of people here who do post meaningful and respectful posts, I concede, you win.
On my part this thread has ran it's course!
Balk,

I really haven't a clue what you're talking about. This venue isn't a contest so there isn't any winning or losing my friend. We all are allowed to come here and post our own opinions and thoughts whether others agree or disagree with them.

And the add-on...well...I thought it might help you catch on a little quicker...just trying to help you out some. Wink
