A friend of mine graduated last year and chose to go to a D1 up north with high academics. The academics are real difficult and the baseball is ok. He's thinking of transferring because he misses baseball in the south aside from the classes being too difficult. Would it be better to go to a JUCO so you don't sit out a year or go to a D1, sit out but have 3 years of eligibility left? I figured people on here would have some insight/opinions on this and told him I would ask. thanks for your help!

there is no set answer here.

it will depend on what school he can get into. if his grades arent up to snuff go JC. It's possible he cant do college work and play baseball at the same time yet. maybe a few years at jc would be better and he can play right away as long as he can still qualify academically.

of course sitting out a year will help him academically, which truthfully is the greater goal of going to college, an education!

Well put baseballtoday...

If a player is not ready academically, then they will find themselves struggling early and often.

The JC route is an excellent start for these kids to get their feet up underneath them for a couple of years. I also think being redshirting in year 1 at the D1 level is the 2nd best option.
He is a smart kid just not gifted which makes a high academic school/baseball difficult. He had a 3.1 the first semester and doing above A, B, C work now. He went there because his parents wanted him to and passed on the warm weather D1. He just wondered if it's better to be playing at a JUCO, or getting your foot in the door at a D1 even though you can't play. Thanks for your help.
