I'm sorry, I'm sure this has been covered here, I just don't have time to search today.

D1 baseball player who wants to transfer after his freshman year cannot play at a D1 in his sophomore year. He either sits out or plays at a JUCO for example, then can play at the D1 in year three.

What about this?  D1 player plays his freshman year. Then he redshirts his sophomore year. If he now wants to transfer to another D1, does he still have to sit out year three?

Alternatives:

1) He could still transfer to a JC for one semester and play, then transfer to the D1 as you suggest.  This will maximize the choices of D1 schools....assuming he plays good at the JC.

2) Or, possbily transfer to a D1, and enroll at a nearby JC at the same time with enough units to play on the JC team.  This however might limit his choices of schools.

Without knowing who the player is, I would guess it would be difficult to transfer and play at another D1 school w/o proving yourself at the JC.  Most players would be looking at a longshot walkon by sitting out a year.
