I am having trouble picking up the baseball out of the pitchers hand. I really don't have anywhere to hit bp at right now so I was wondering if anybody knew any drills or tips to help me out.

Have you had your eyes checked lately? Other thing is look to the area he releases the ball, don't just focus on the hand.
Age? Sorry, always my first ques.
If in HS why r u not having indoor BP? There are tons of Christmas Break camps around here locally-does your area have any? Also hitting instructors throwing BP who can help. If younger ask Summer coach for suggestions. Hard to believe there is NO way to make it happen. If there's a will, there's a way.

In in 9th grade and I don't have anywhere to go regularly on my own.Our hs is going to get us a place to take bp after new years. Other than my summer team going one every one or two weeks for practice I can't go anywhere to hit. The reason I asked for help is because I did a fall high school baseball three week season. The pitching was a adjustment for me and I couldn't get my bat around quick enough. I felt like my reaction time needed to be earlier bc my bat speed wasn't quick enough to get to the ball.I have increased my bat speed a lot from then to now.
15 age
Video of your swing would help. Hard to know why you are not on time. Could be a lot of things.
Try a machine at 5mph over the typical speed for your age.
I disagree w machine suggestion. Must learn to hit live pitching. Rarely hVe I seen machines used at camps, lessons, HS practices, etc.
wonder what his HS has been doing all Fall. Ours have been doing BP for months 1-2 times a wk, either inside or out depending on weather.

my hs has been doing conditioning at a local gym twice a week. It is mostly plyometric we hardly never do free-weights playball.
No. 1, do not panic. Get some tee work in if you can. Sounds like you have a timing issues which takes live bp and real games. Visualization drills may help also. The main thing is find a way.... find a way to swing. Your timing will come when live bp becomes available. Also, their may be a local hitting guru you can work with - investigate. Check out local colleges to see if they offer hitting clinics, etc. Good luck and keep SWINGING
thanks sd lefty we started bp today and do u know of any visualization drills. I have got a couple of emails to go to college showcases and hitting clinics but money is a big object to move for me and my family. So I have been doing some work on bat speed by hitting a tire with my bat. I have the will and im not lazy just have to get creative with my situation.
Visualization = Close your eyes. Get in a relaxed and comfortable state. Breath deeply. Now visualize a great AB in a game situation. You can reflect on a past great AB. See your self putting on gloves, helmet and walking to the on deck circle, getting loose, getting timing down off pitcher. See your self walking to the batters box and digging in. See the pitchers wind up and ball coming out of his hand and taking a great swing and making hard contact. Repeating the process is key as it will get a routine going for you which will help you get in a comfortable state at the plate. Give it a try and good luck!
oh yeah great tip sd lefty I did that before a showcase this year. I visualized myself hitting the ball on the top right corner of the netting. So when the showcase started I did exactly what I visualized pulling a inside pitch with power. I have never reflected on a great past ab but I visualize myself in the state championship this year slamming a walk off homerun even though I am a freshman I do strive to work my way to be the best. I also read some parts of Dr. Tom Hanson baseball book heads up baseball it said it is helpful to write down on paper what u want to happen helps u visualize it.
Nice!!! I like that you have an open mind to learnig. This is very important in your development as a player. Always learning...

Thanks I have learned a lot of mental toughness from that book and I learned some great hitting principals from Ted Williams book the art and science of hitting. I always try to keep a open mind about new things and experiment with them but I always like to go by track record. For instance I am working on my speed and my base running ability and I found something that is very interesting to me.
Here is a drill I worked on... Find one of your pitchers that is working on a bullpen anyway and stand in there and just take pitches. Watch the ball all the way into the glove. After the pitch is caught call out what pitch it was. It will help you focus on the ball.
Thanks coach do you have any other tips than that to work on.
