After viewing 2 MLB tryout camps in the last few days , had seen a number of common and bizzare mistakes made at a tryout camp by players

1) Pitching the day before. No brainer your mph will be down

2)Dad telling his sons baseball career was sidetrack by him being arrested. ( ankle braclets not normal baseball equipment)

3)Player with bad fashion sense. Wearing as many gold chains as Mr T. Also wearing ear rings.

4) Forgeting to bring your bat. Makes hitting a bit tough, players not very willing to share their bats with others.

5) not wearing a baseball uniform. Some players wore over large sweat pants the size of Mc Hammer.

6) Having no talent:
MLB scouts just love to see 8.0 60 yards,
2.5 release times and
73 mph fastballs

7) Showing up 4 hours late

8) Plugg the MLB scout clocking you

9) Plugg the MLb scout on the catchers throws down to 2nd base

10) Bad Hair. Bob Marley dreadlocks

11) Mid life crisis: when you reach 40 make a career choice and decide to tryout for a MLB team. Never mind they say 16-22 years old

I'm glad you brought this up. We purchased the Showcase video awhile back. It has some good information about how showcases are conducted. It also spends a good bit of time extolling the virtues of the same. It's main shortcoming was it didn't go into a lot in the way of recommended Do's & Don'ts. After reading the HSBBW for years I guess this type stuff should be pretty much common sense. But it sure would have been entertaining to hear more from the scouts about what turns them off, and some war stories about some of the stupid things kids and parents have done in the past.
