My 14 year old catcher was just diagnosed with "turf toe," which is usually caused by a hyperextension of the big toe upward. He can't recall any particular event, and the podiatrist suspects it may be from the positioning of his right foot while catching. Any other catchers out there who have had this diagnosis? What did you do to fix the problem?

Thanks for any input you can provide.

I had it last year. It isn't exactly the most fun thing in the world. When I had it, I would work out or play a game and then look at my sock after the game and there would be a big blood spot right above my left big toe. After my podiatrist operated on it I just basically found a bigger pair of shoes. Wider that is. I got turf toe form my shose being too narrow, maybe that could be a part of the problem? I am also a catcher by the way.
