CubsSon is home for the weekend and just told me that in the first team meeting the HC told the guys they won't be playing U. Chicago as they are moving to D2 with the baseball program. The HC shared some additional details surrounding the situation, but I'm reluctant to post additional info without having further clarity. When CubsSon's schedule was posted I noticed right away Chicago wasn't on it, and thought they may be playing an independent schedule (Chicago was an associate member of the conference for baseball).

Has anyone one else heard this?

@CubsFanInSTL,

Nope, hadn't heard that.  Interesting.  If true, that would be very surprising.  Univ of Chicago is definitely an elite national academically focused school, and it seems moving up in athletics wouldn't really benefit them or their brand.   Are you sure your son wasn't referring to Univ of Illinois at Chicago moving down from D1 to D2?  No mention of the change on the Univ of Chicago website.  https://athletics.uchicago.edu...tudent-athletes.aspx

Nobody I've met in the last 15 years on this board was primarily interested in Univ of Chicago for its athletic program.   Its always been:  1) can i get in  2) can the coach help because I need a boost with admissions 3) can I afford it.  Everybody that I know that has visited Univ of Chicago was extremely impressed with everything they have to offer.

I have family & friends who graduated from U. Chicago but none were involved in athletics and they don't know/don't care. One of our sons teammates was recruited by and accepted into Chicago and chose MIT instead -- he doesn't know anything either and was surprised to hear that they weren't playing in the conference in 2025. Chicago football is still in the conference for 2024.

Definitely not mixing them up with UIC, my friend's nephew plays there and he would have mentioned it (I just saw him today at our DD's volleyball game). From the sound of things, it is only the baseball program that was mentioned by the HC. Schools can and do play sports in different divisions (my alma mater was split between D1 an D2 for a few years). When the schedule came out I simply assumed Chicago was going to play an independent or UAA (they are a member for other sports) schedule. Was looking forward to getting back to Chicago and having some family come to son's games. I agree that it would be odd for Chicago to move to D2.
