Announced the elimination of 2 mens sports yesterday, Not Baseball. Mens s****r and volleyball have been eliminated and the school has put the other sports programs on notice that there will be budget cuts forthcoming. This is tough news for a baseball program that rely's on extensive travel to complete it's schedule. The closest D1 program is over 4 hours away. Maine has just completed a major field renovation that could be a saving grace for the program. Facilities are A1

A sign of the times.

There was a series of articles on the effects of budget cuts on sports in the Press Herald (Portland paper) a couple of weeks ago. My first thought is baseball would be a goner if not for all the money just spent on renovations.

i wouldn't say maine has planty of d3 schools with bb, for a state it's size it really lags behind. now conn. has some schools.

it's kind of ironic, we have a local player at uvm and they dropped bb. another local boy signed with umo and that at the least is alarming to hear.

it prabably will be more widespread than we know.

I would say nine D3 programs is a decent number for a state with Maine's population. They compete in three different New England conferences. So in addressing the post of concern regarding who a D3 in Maine would play, I don't see an issue.

Southern Maine
Colby
Bates
Bowdoin
Husson
Maine-Farmington
Maine-Presque Isle
Saint Josephs
