I met the UAB assistant coach, John Kovash, completely by accident one day last month as I hung out watching a Vanderbilt practice. (Yeah, we baseball dads do strange things while travelling on business.)

He and I chatted for about an hour. My take: very good baseball guy, straight shooter, and he seemed very serious about what they were trying to accomplish at UAB. It was only a single conversation, but there was certainly nothing he said or did that would make me reluctant to have my son play for him.
Coach Shoop had a very successful program while at Birmngham Southern. No doubt in my mind he will not be successful at UAB as well. My son went to a recruiting day and we were very impressed. We had several other occasions to meet with Kovach and Roth and was impressed with them as well. UAB is a pre-med school and the campus is very nice, but somewhat spread about the UAB hospital area.
