UDub is sometimes how they refer to the Washington Huskies up in the Seattle Area...

I didn't realize the ironic matchup until today, but long-time member infielddad's son is an assistant coach at UC Davis along with being the hitting coach.  justbb's son is a sophmore at University of Washington.  Both have been friends for a long time, live in a similar area in California, and both have a Stanford connection as well.  This weekend, both their son's are matched up against each other - one as coach and one as player.

justbb's oldest son starred at Stanford and now is any eyelash away from the big leagues with the Washington Nationals as he was recently promoted to their 40 man roster.  infielddad's wife works at Stanford and they both have been longtime supporters of the baseball program and have watched many games along with justbb at Sunken Diamond.

Small world eh?

Very cool.

Bum, Jr. was on the same travel team with a certain pitcher that ended up being the #1 guy at UW.  Bum, Jr. and he pitched against each several times in h.s.  So Bum, Jr. ends up down in Texas and now he and that kid are in the same organization in pro ball.. expect them to meet up again this year.  Very small world indeed.

BTW, UW is a very beautiful campus.  The nearby U-District is a fantastic place to  shop and eat.

Totally agree Bum.  Seattle is one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited.  Sometimes it never knows when to quit raining there, but it is a natural and culteral beauty nonetheless.  Along with the University area, there is Pioneer Square, downtown, Pike's Market, Belletown, and the Pier, to name but a few of the lovely places to visit.  Add to that wonderful places like Kirkland and Bellvue and there is an infinite supply of places to see and things to do.

HA!  Just saw this.

I can report that infielddad's son got the better of JBB's (moi's) son.     UC Davis took the series 3 games to 1 (UGH!) and while my son got a no decision...Jason Armstrong and his hitters got the better of him.

I also had the pleasure of sitting behind home plate with infielddad for one of the games (does that make us a clique or a "cliche?"  ).  Anyone that doesn't wanna listen to infielddad when he gives advice on here?  Well, your loss and no one else's...thats all I can say.

Anyways...Jason Armstrong is one heckuva good hitting coach.  Why?  Well, his hitters faced everything from a mid-90s pitcher with a slider to a mid-80's pitcher with 4 pitches for strikes.  UC Davis did a very fine job of hitting in all aspects...straight up, situational, 2-strike, 0-2/1-2 counts, hit-and-run, bunt, etc...  They make pitchers work...they run up pitch counts, fight off good pitches, hold their ground in the batter's box, show tremendous discipline in all counts and had very few swing-throughs.

Yes, I like infielddad and his son...but make no mistake I was rooting HARD for the other team.

I dunno much, but I sure know that Jason Armstrong is a very good hitting coach.  And I'd have no hesitation sending a hitting son (if I had one ) to UCD to work under Jason either.

CD, I grew up in Seattle.  It's usually more a terarium-like mist than rain.  You just wipe off your mop and move on.  If you want to talk about rain, Bum, Jr. played in Cleveland (no offense) one summer and I think half the games were rescheduled.  That's rarely a problem in the summer and fall in Seattle. Seattle actually gets less rain than nearly every city east of the Mississippi.  Look it up!

But he loved Cleveland, and his host family were really nice.
