It is important to read the words closely..."from his/her attendance zone" is VERY important. If a player lives within his/her attendance zone, but attends, say, Jesuit, that coach is still prohibited from coaching that player during the summer or non-school teams. There were instances recently surrounding this and the UIL was very clear on this point, yielding to the potential for recruiting "back' to their local school.
As I understand, if they are eligible for junior high athletics they cannot be coached by a coach in the district. They are not in the 7th grade until they actually attend 7th grade classes. Therefore, a coach can coach them the summer prior to their 7th grade year, but not after that. Of course this should be p[refaced that all questions like this should be asked directly to the UIL as to prevent anyone from violating a rule in a seemingly "gray area."

A coach at the school cannot coach any of his/her players in his/her attendance zone during the summer in grades 7-12. They can host a camp for incoming 9th graders, but that is the extent of it. Therefore, the girls softball coach could not coach a baseball team that has a player in the school's attendance zone.

I don't make the rules, I just follow them.

Hope this helps!
