My first year doing HS this happened to me. Caught me on the toe, I killed the ball, awarded BR first and returned R2 to second. He was about 2 1/2 steps away from third when I killed it. New umpire, first time at the school and a long time manager, he wasn't happy. My PU was an icon in umpiring at the time and backed me 100%. As Dash said, an embarrassing moment. That was 25 years ago and haven't been hit since.
Knock on wood, never hit nor a partner. Some close ones though.

Best you can hope for is F1 get's a glove on it then it's play on.

So, you young hitters out there, never "hit an umpire". Might just cost ya a 3 bagger and some ribbies. Defense never let a umpire get hit, might cost a ya a 6-4-3.

Bad for everybody, especially that poor bruised guy out there with the red face.
