The batter bunts the ball about 3 feet toward 1st base. Bunt is telegraphed early so catcher is quick getting to the ball and squares for easy throw to 1st. At the same time, the umpire steps forward, trips on the bat and falls on the catcher knocking them both down AND the catcher can't get up because the umpire is laying on his legs. The ball rolls out of the catcher's mitt and neither the pitcher or the 1st baseman can get to the ball before the batter is safe at 2nd base. The field umpire called the batter safe at 2nd and the appeal to the plate umpire resulted in upholding the field umpire's call. What is the correct ruling on this? This was in a legion area final.
