Umpire response on swinging 3rd strike

An umpire should indicate it is a strike,but should not give the 3rd strike mechanic. If it is obvious to eveyone then the ump should do nothing, if it is questionable he should give a non-chalant safe call which indicates that it is not a caught third strike.

Current mechanic is to verbally call the pitch a strike, and make the strike call (hammer motion). We do not verbalize or signal any additional information. In HS and Higher baseball is left up to the defense to know what the situation is with the pitch.

piaa_ump sounds like we are saying the same thing. THe reason we give the safe call, lets every one know that we saw the play. Its still up to the defence to respond accordinly.

The accepted mechanic here is to point with the left hand (on a swing) and say "yes he did" then to give the safe mechanic. If there is no swing, (and heaven forbid, you have to call the pitch a strike) then we give the strike call and mechanic (but not the strike 3 mechanic) and then the safe mecahnic.

Both of these let everyone know what is going on.
