I know a pitcher from VCU and he tells me that they don't think players from up north can play down there. He doesn't care for the head coach but really likes his pitching coach. There must be a chance of him moving on because he told me that if the pitching coach leaves, he'll follow him. He did say it's exciting to pitch in front of 5,000 fans. Also, is not impressed with the city itself. Says it's very dirty and the school is alot of artsy kids. But...he's hangin' in there. He walked on and did make the group that gets to go to away games. Apparently, they don't take the whole team to away games.
Charlotte has been beaten up fairly badly in C-USA over the past 4 years. They are moving to the Atlantic-10 conference (along with St. Louis). They may move towards the top of the conference once they complete the move. The A-10 isn't known for it's baseball in comparison to C-USA and Charlotte will be the southern-most team in the conference. There aren't any local (easily drivable) conference opponents in the A-10.

The pitching staff was thin last year and they aren't bringing in a large class in '04, but are targetting a large one in '05.
VCU,P ABB-MOM,I know the player who said all these things about VCU.If he is so unhappy please go back to Penn.Philadelphia and Pittsburg are much more dirty than Richmond. The Fan District where VCU is located is beautifull and Monument Ave.is one of the most highest priced realestate in the state. The houses on Monument Ave sell for over a million dollars. As for the art students,VCU has one of the BEST art schools in the World. They just had a student show in London.Students from all walks of life come to VCU to study.
VCU Coach Keys is a hard working coach who has a winning D1 program at VCU.Coach Keys has the highest winning percentage in the state for all D1 schools.Vcu has been to the NCAA tournamet 5 times in the last six years.VT has been twice and UVA once.If you come to VCU you must be willing to work, you are up at 6:00am and at the gym working out,go to class, then you have practice at 2pm,then study hall, then back at the gym for more work out.Alot of kids come out of highschool where they were the star and handled like a baby, that is not going to happen at VCU.You must earn your spot on the travel team.
Coach Keys is at VCU to win and he recruits all over the USA and Europe.Look at the Roster, players from Calf.,Canada, you can not get much more North than Canada, and Penn.Their are 2 players from the Netherlands.VCU is recruiting all over North and South America right now.In the last two years VCU has had 10 players drafted or signed into the MLB.Justin Orenduff just signed a million dollar contract with the LA Dogers.
Coach Mark McQueen is the pitching coach at VCU.He won Coach of the Year from the NCAA last year.He has put dozens of pitchers in the MLB.He is a very hard worker and a great guy.Like Coach Keys he is there to win and you must earn your spot on the pitching staff. If you can not preform at a D1 level you will not play.Harold Mozingo won All CAA and Freshman of the year as a pitcher for VCU.

UNC Charlotte has two of the most energetic assistant coaches around. Coach Durkac (postition & hitting) and Coach Hall (pitching). They have invested alot of money on their field and are planning on renovating their stadium. I think coach Hall has been on the staff for 3 yrs and coach Durkac for 2 yrs. I could be wrong about their tenure but if they stay there they will have a big impact on UNC-Charlotte's success. Their program seems to be on the rise after some tough years of neglect. Workout facilities are superb and their strength and conditioning coach seems to have an idea. It is definately worth a trip to Chalotte, NC to meet the coaches and see the facilities.

VCU plays their home games at the Diamond. This is the same stadium that the Richmond Braves-AAA- team of the Atlanta Braves play in.It has a capacity of 12,134 seats.of course VCU uses the same batting cages and bull pens as the Braves use.All the equipment and stadium are top notch. The demensions are LF=330,CF=402,rf=330 and natural grass, which is kept by the Diamond staff.this is no kiddy park and homeruns are hard to come by,this is why VCU recruits only serious D1 players.
