Under Armor makes some pretty nice stuff, although it can be expensive. If it is just cool spring practices, a light or middleweight base layer is ideal. Make sure it has polypropylene as part of the fabric. Polyp is a wicking agent and takes moisture away from the skin. The biggest cause for an athlete getting cold is sweating and staying wet. Polyp alleviates that issue. Stay away from anything cotton, it acts like a sponge and keeps the moisture near the skin.

Um, how about Under Armour?

There are several types/styles in the Under Armour brand.

Was hoping someone could recommend a specific one or another brand.

Sorry, I was just being a smart aleck. I get bored working midnights!
I've worn longohns for many years on hunting trips all over the west, so I have some opinions for sure. If it were me, I'd buy him Under Armour brandh. DuoFold is good stuff, no doubt about it, but it is also made from a fabric that doesn't perform as well when wet, and with sweating while practicing, he'll get it wet.

I do not like polypropylene for this type of use, as polypropylene retains odor like no other fabric I've ever worn. If he wears it for baseball, he's going to STINK. I've completely quit wearing polypropylene as a base layer, it is not a good choice for hunting as you reek after a few days, you can't easily get the odor out of that stuff.

I now use UnderArmour and have found it to be one of the best choices available, of the many types I've tried over the years.
