sanistano,
Welcome to the HSBBW!!

I am from the midwest and my son went through the college baseball recruiting process last year, so I feel for what you are going through.

OLDSLUGGER8 gave you a great link. Please do click on it!

Not sure what position your son plays, but last year on Feb 9-10 there was a Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase at PG Headquarters, in Cedar Rapids, IA.
You might want to contact them and see if a showcase of this type will be offered again in 09'. ( if your son plays either position )

PG contact info:

1203 Rockford Rd. SW
Cedar Rapids, IA 52404
Phone: 319-298-2923
Fax: 319-298-2924

Also be sure to check out the HSBBW tournament/showcase forum and the Midwest forum for upcoming events.
I know that many midwest colleges are offering winter camps. Check their particular websites for details.

Do you have any idea what level ball your son is capable of playing at?
Any idea what level ball he wants to play at or where? Has he contacted these schools?
Has he been to any showcases before?

If you would be willing to tell us a little bit more ( other than just that your son is under the radar ) about how your recruiting process is going, some of the HSBBW er's might be able to give you some suggestions and help on how to fix this!

Also, dont forget to post your son's information in the " Unsigned Players " thread, here on the HSBBW.

I hope we can help.

Thanks shortstopmom,

My son plays all outfield positions and middle infield. He most likely would be best suited at centerfield or second base at a mid level D1 school. He plays at a large high school and in one of the most competitive conferences in the state of Illinois. Made all area in some newspapers and was invited to tryout for the White Sox Area Code Team. At this point several DIII schools appear to be serious.
We weren't on any radar at all (except possibly one based in North Korea), as my work has me over here in the ROK and my kids have basically grown up here on the army base. BUT, we chose a HeadFirst showcase which was well-attended by 30 or so college coaches who were there to talk turkey. He ended up in a fine situation all around because of that one event. It can be done! Keep the faith!

I would highly recommend researching any showcase you attend and make sure, as your son is a senior, that numerous coaches are guaranteed to be in attendance to fill their slots. Some showcases are very lightly attended by coaches, if any attend at all. Check HeadFirst, check the Perfect Game schedule (they have an Unsigned Seniors event), and if your son is interested in schools on the eastern seaboard, check in with TRHit. But again, just make sure to get a confirmation that certain coaches have committed to being there.

Best of luck, it will work out!

Sanistano, welcome to the HSBBW. Once you are here, you will find an amazing amount of good information. You will also find variations on opinions. Mine might be one of those.
Having been through this with our son, it might be your son isn't flying under the radar.
If he isn't getting noticed and recruited by DI's, but is by DIII's, it could well be he is viewed as a DIII prospect. If he is being projected as a 2B, that can have some "negatives" as a projection because it suggests limitations. At least it did for our son.
That is not in any way to suggest your son isn't a very, very good player. It sounds like he is.
For whatever reason, there are some players that DI coaches find reasons they cannot play at that level.
From our experience, who is recruiting you is probably a very good reflection of how your son is viewed by coaches who have seen him.
Certainly, that can change. For ours, it did change late in his senior year, but too late for him to switch from the DIII coach and school that recruited him since the prior September.
He got his degree from one of the best Universities in the US, did it in 4 years, played every game but one in those 4 years, played and proved he was a shortstop, played very high level Summer league ball and got drafted by MLB.
Personally, I would rethink whether he is "under the radar." From your post, he is on the DIII radar and that might be where he fits, at this point. That can be a very good option.
