In a post someone mentioned coaches requiring batting gloves to match the uniforms. What other uniformity rules have you seen from kiddie ball through high school/18U?

The varsity coach at the high school requires players to wear their pants legs down. They are required to wear black cleats with only white or dark blue (high school color) on them. Black must be the dominant color. Individually owned batting helmets must be the same color as the school provided helmets. He'll provide the logo decal. The rules also apply to the JV and freshman teams.

In travel we required cleats to be black and/or colors of the team. All helmets were required to be primarily black or dark blue. Team colors were allowed on the helmet as long as black or dark blue were the dominant colors.

One recent coach had the notion that all of the spikes should match - down to the make and model. This posed two problems:

1) Many players already had new spikes for the season, their parents were not about to shell out $150 for the make and model he had chosen.

2) The make and model turned out to only fit kids with wide stubby feet. Did not come in a narrow - nor in a size greater than 12. Made it impossible for several kids on the team with size 13 or 14 feet and or narrow feet (one kid laced them up until they came together and it was still sloppy.)

Needless to say, this was one time where uniformity was not enforced!!!

I am going to be the one who goes against the majority of coaches here. The more rules you have the more you have to enforce them and the more confrontations you will end up having.

Now that being said I do have standards - same color shoe (you pick the model), same undershirts, same socks and wear hat forward. After that I don't see any reason to fight a battle over anything else.

Flat bill hats, pants up or down and arm bands I could care less about. I have total respect for the guys who do require their guys to conform on issues like this but that is not me. I didn't really chime in on the flat bill issue over in the coaches forum. I guess my attitude comes from my high school and college coaches because those were those rules as well. Plus I coached at a place where funds were very limited. I guess I was just happy if we had enough money for practice balls.
