Also Bob Tewksbury, who's best known for his slow and effective RH pitching for the Cardinals, but now works for the Red Sox as their Sport Psychology coach.
Don Kalkstein is the Director of Sport Psychology for the Dallas Mavericks. He travels with the team and is at all practices. He's been with them for quite a while. This does not mean that they don't also use Tarpley and Howard, but I'm not sure about the specific dynamics of that. I can ask DK or maybe Big Train knows more. I do know that DK is the lead mental skills coach for the team and he's also worked for the Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox (Francona leaned on him a lot over the years), NASCAR drivers, and PGA Tour professionals. You can follow him on twitter at @think2win.
Someone told me yesterday that not 5 minutes after he took the podium after winning the Championship last year, Rick Carlisle thanked the players, the coaches, the sport psychology coach Don Kalkstein, ... I wish I had a clip of that. DK doesn't get or look for much credit, but he has information that can help us all 'win' the mental game and he's excited about sharing it at this Coaching Workshop. Check it out!
Bad: Don Kalkstein had to back out of the Coaching Workshop this Sunday due to the MAVS new schedule. He feels bad, but that is his full-time job. Something about interviewing potential free agents.
Good: Brian Cain is taking his place! Cain has worked with the Washington Nationals and many other top college programs and individual professionals. He's a dynamic speaker who I've heard a couple times. Not to be missed!
