I'm an upcoming sophomore at College Park, and I wanted to know what it might take as a righty pitcher trying to walk on. I am going to work out with the club team and hopefully play there if I don't make the varsity team. I heard Rupp doesn't really look at you and that the tryout is just a formality, but that might be coming from some bitter rejectees. I haven't been clocked in 2 years, but my pitching coach says he can tell I throw in the mid 80s and top out around 90. We'll have to see though. Thanks.
The future ain't what it used to be.

JWOAH,
I can tell you this and you can take what you want from it.My son was a walk- on last year albeit a "recruited" one.He made the team and had a good year and was rewarded with a scholarship and books this year. From what I know of coach Rupp he does not go through the motions on anything he does including walk on try outs.Last year about seventy five tried out and while true no one made it I heard he gave some promising words of encouragemeant and advice. If you have any doubts regarding coach Rupp's affinty for the long shot just go to Maryland's baseball website to their publications list and read about Steve Schmoll.See the article dated 8\1\05 Schmoll visits nationals.I hope this helps and wish the best you can pm me any time if you like.
