Ok, Jim Brady is a legend there at UMSL. Good baseball man. The school is very nice but the facilities are average. (indoor facilities are awesome!) This is a school that is known to be a baseball powerhouse in the Midwest. In previous years they have been ranked in the top 5. In the past couple of years the teams have been average but I am sure they will soon make some more news. Coach Brady is just to good of a coach to let that program slide. Hope that helps
umsl's field is terrible, probably the worst playing field in the glvc. there was a big legal issue that coach brady just got done dealing with and he lost a lot of players because of it and hasn't focues on recruiting too much. i don't see the team getting any better until he is out of there. i agree he is a good coach but i think he needs to move on
I have to agree with formerhsplayer.
My son took a visit to UMSL and loved the players he stayed with but the coach was definitely "pre-occupied" with his legal battles. My understand is that his position went from a full time position to a part time position. He had to do "odd jobs" to make ends meet. My son was there in May and never got to see the facilities, they worked him out at some academy. He also found the coach to be a "screamer, pretty intense"...but that could be his frustrations coming out. He has had a great career and is obviously a good coach but I think the comment about moving on is pretty accurate
Mde5, The legal situation is over. It has been over for months now. Coach Brady is a "screamer", he is an intense man. So maybe he needs to move on because he likes stuff done his way. HMMM. He is now back as a full time employee and is recruiting his rear end off I have heard. I get so frustrated reading stuff about college coaches that "need to move on!" This man has built the program, he didn't build it by being Mr. nice guy. Coach Brady is as nice of a guy you'll ever meet off the field but on it he expects perfection. So if people can't take criticism then they defenitly need to go somewhere like William Woods. Maybe that coach will baby kids. I know first hand that Coach Brady is a class act and one hell of a coach and friend.
Coach Brady won a million plus dollar judgement against UMSL (yes, against his current employer) for age discrimination. The details are absolutely incredible. They tried to get him to leave by ruining his facilities and therefore his program. They moved his office into the boiler room hoping he would get pissed and leave. They reduced him to part-time status.

Great treatment for a guy who built a perennial winner with no baggage.

Big story around here.

Although he is an excellent coach I wouldn't say he built the program. The program has been good for many years going back to Jim Dix (maybe further).

I think UMSL got the message. If not, they will. The press is all over them and their credibility is very low.

If I were a young player I would love to play for a fighter like Jim Brady

coach brady is a great coach, i have no problem with a screamer at all. his team use to win though. they were bottom of the conference this year and no one wanted to play for him, at least that is the impression i got playing against them. no one ruined his field, it has been one of the worst fields in the glvc before the lawsuit happened. if this was the umsl it was two years ago i would say play for them, but it isn't so i would look else where
If you haven't played for him then you are out of line when you make such irrational statements. Sure since the time I was there(ranked 3rd in the country) they have went downhill, but how can you blame that on a guy that has been bent over? UMSL will get back to where it once was soon, I gaurantee you formerhsplayer. Then you are gonna come back to the HSBASEBALL WEB and tell all of us "Diamond Jim" supporters how wrong you were. Just curious who do you play for in the conference formerhsplayer? The only other program that can be compared to UMSL right now is St. Joe.
i use to play for st. joes. and there are other teams that compare to them. NKU has been good for the past four years. Parkside is a very good team. i am not saying that umsl going down hill is brady's fault, i understand that the school screwed him over, i know the story. what i am saying is that if he isn't going to recruit they aren't going to get any talent. and if the school is going to do these things to him then he is better off going somewhere where he will be treated the way he should be. i never said he was a bad coach.
Coach Brady is still the coach, no need for a change there as you have heard about the kind of guy he is. The facilities have seen a major major major improvement since the posts above though! They are doing more improvements this summer around the events that we are hosting with them and Saint Louis University. I don't think many people will be complaining about the facilities for a while with the improvements Coach Brady got done.
