Hey people,D1,D2,D3 all different levels of play. My advice is don't get caught up in the D1 hype, for all you people who know schools around the country, heres one for you Gloucester Community College in NJ. Small, unknown,Comm Coll have moved many players thru on their way to the majors better than many D1'S program wise. Check them out

I'll make a couple of assumptions here.

1- When you are saying "D1 hype" you are talking about students finding a University that is right for them academically as well athletically. For each student that match might be different.

2- That you are not trying to compare a small community college to a 4 year school academically.

3- That if you have the opportunity to go to a 4 yr school vs. a community college (with all else being equal...financial, playing time) go to the 4 yr school that will give u a BA/BS degree vs an AA degree.

There is absoultely a place for community colleges and are absolutely the appropriate places for many student athletes... but there is also a place for many student athletes at the D1 hype programs too!
Novice Dad: The point I was making is that some kids and their parents are so driven by the fact it's D1,they forget there are other options with many very good programs, right down to the JUCO schools. So when a kid is not accepted by a D1 they feel anything else is on the downside. I'm not taking anything away from D1 schools or the kids that are trying to get in.
Just a quick story.

A few weeks ago - my youngest had to play a doubleheader at a 2 year school - Louisburg College.

About 60 miles or so outside of Raleigh.

Never heard of it.

We go there - they have a really nice field tucked away at the back of the campus. Near the concession stand - they have a wall with names on it. I go up and read it.

It was the names of former Louisburg players who went on to play pro and MLB baseball.

74 pro players - with 13 who played in MLB.

Amazing.

Coach1,
I understand what you are trying to say. We worry that our Son will get caught up in only wanting to go Div.1. But he is surprising us. We are going to a Div.2 school visit today. This weekend he performed well knowing that a really good Div.3 school was wanting to watch him play. Of couse there were schools there from all three Div's so you should always play your best. At think at this point he is leaving no stone unturned trying to find the right fit for him. That means academically too. The school we are visitng today was a unknown to us until they took intersest in our Son. It turns out is a top rated school for the major he wants. So you never should shut doors until you are sure of your decision and have checked out every option.
