Hey guys, last season I was a sophomore in hs, I batted .479 on varstity (led team [for starters]). Although I really smashed the ball, (i also lead the team in slugging average) I didn't get any homeruns. We've decided I need to get more power on my deep ball from my hips.

Don't get me wrong, I have power, but I definately want to improve. Rotational power is so important in this sport, and I really believe that I have alot to be improved in my core. I'm lifting alot, and our school just built an awesome new weight room; and we've got a new coach who is great with working with me. I was wondering what excersizes or drills you've seen used with success I can do this off season to get more explosiveness out of my core and hips.

Are you doing core-specific work-outs? If so, what?

tv- same thing happened to me. It was weird. Do you follow linear or rotational hitting? If you follow linear, a couple minor swing adjustments can give you power. Keep the hands, but change your shoulder. Watch a pro swing. They take their hands straight to the ball, but dip their back shoulder. You have to watch them, because I can't really explain it over the internet. But if you are a rotational hitter, then I dont know anything to hlp you.
well to answer a couple questions:
-I am doing a baseball workout which includes some core work- mb side throws, mb russian twists-rollins rotation, captains chair, ect... so I do some specific as well as more total body core such as hang clean, dead lift, and push press.

-as far as if i am a rotational or linear...i'm not quite sure what you mean- to help you tell me what i am i'll say that if I were to compare my swing to a pro, i'd say chase utley is the most similar

John Yaya- you are misunderstanding what I am saying. I am not talking about swinging straight down on the ball. I am talking about them not bringing their hands down first or around the ball first. There is no wasted motion in a pro swing.

Tv- if you don't know which one you are, then you are probably linear. Unless you have watched Mike Epstein tapes, you most likely learned to hit linear. When you are in the cage, focus on keeping your head in one place. Also, when you are working on a tee, tee the ball up high and focus on hitting line drives that finish higher than the tee. Get someone to videotape you swinging, and compare your hands and shoulders to those of a pros. That is how you will start to hit home runs.
