Is there a "best time" in the fall to make an unofficial visit? Any advantage to earlier or later (or mid) in the fall?

Any thoughts on the best way to initiate the unofficial visit?

I'd try to do it during fall practice. That way you have a chance to see the team and coaches in action. Teams schedule fall practice at different times, so you'd need to check. A lot of them will be wrapping up toward the end of October.
