My son got an email from a D1 coach yesterday. My son was invited to the college's highly regarded all-star camp this summer. The coach emailed to say that he had reviewed my son's academic record and felt that it was highly unlikely that he would be accepted at the college. The coach, very kindly, suggested that since the price of the camp was so high, would my son really want to attend?
Well, it was our sense that this camp, while being held at the college, was also an opportunity for other coaches in the area to see prospect. So, with that in mind, my son (knowing that he couldn't academically qualify for the college) decided to accept the camp's invitation anyway.
Question: should my son call the coach and have a conversation about what he's looking for in this camp?
