First, thanks for all the advice on how to handle this season, the first part was rough.  It was a big adjustment for my son to go from a township team (that wasn't very competitive) to more of an elite team.  He struggled a bit the first part of the season and was near the bottom in terms of BA, the second half of the season he really turned things around and pretty much tied for third in BA on the team.  The coach spoke with me and told me he was very excited for my son and exceeded the coach's expectations for him.  He also advised me that son had some huge, big time hits - not necessarily far - but key hits that helped the team win.   I know that son still has a lot of things to work on, confidence being the most, but he also needs to work on defense (per coach) so he can get more field time.  Up until this year he has never had any formal coaching, (he has had hitting lessons and pitching lessons).  He plays first and could play third as well - has anyone ever gotten fielding lessons?  How did they go and where they effective?

Lots of them over the years. Lots of footwork as well as working on how to approach the ball.  How to receive the ball, transfer the ball as well as how to react in specific situations.  I will say that my kid did this with 3 or 4 other kids which made it easier to work on specific situations ie double plays, underhanding, etc
