Update on New Bats

I heard that some bats are better than others?

I think that there was a discussion here regarding the better of the new bats? Would that make a difference?

NCAA DI and Cap Cod leader from last year or this last summer has 1 hr this year!

A player at Nova Southeastern has 6 and 2 players on our team have 3.

So is this what they wanted or did they dumb the bats down TOO much?

Or....go to wood and don't worry about it.

My guess is that this is just about what we would be seeing if they had gone to wood. If their purpose was to have the BBCOR bats mimic wood, they probably succeeded.

Bum, great stats, except it would be a comparison if you had through the same period 2010/2011...apples to apples.

how many Hrs hit in apr/may 2010 thus your other stats would also be affected.

the bats are what they are, but not as bad as this sounds.

Announcer broadcasting our College game today for local Radio stated that across the college game (all levels) home run production down 50% this year with BBCOR bats.

Our team not off quite that much but it's very noticable by anyone that can hear or see.

Great game now; infielders with range are again diving, knocking down balls and springing up to throw runners out. Outfielders are chasing down balls in the gap and pitchers are coming inside! It's a wonderful game to behold.

I am hearing (and maybe seeing) that as well.

I've only seen a few games this year, but from what I've seen, there are very few popups compared to wood. A pitch inside with wood may break a bat, but still may be a hit with the new bats.

Tarleton State University has 12 hrs so far this year and All-American Chris Cassaza has hit 6 of the 12 homeruns so far. Last year he had 16 for the year.

D2's have a two week or so head start over D1's with more games played. However, as I stated in another thread local Radio announcer at our game, when speaking about BBCOR's and the affect across college baseball, said " home runs are down 50% from last year."

On our squad, team leader and conference leader has 7 (22 games played), others on the team have totaled 5,4 and 3 with a team total of 21 in 22 games. Again, about half the output of last year. On average, seems like we see one or two a game where as before they came in waves.

Our conference president went on record earlier this year (before Fall ball) and recommended to the University Presidents that we play with Wood next year (2012). We haven't heard whether or not that proposal will be accepted. Everyone, I believe, hopes it will indeed happen.

It's not only homeruns that are now fly ball outs--how about check-swing right field Texas leaguers? I think more telling would be to compare ERA so far this year to same period last year.
