Upperclass v. Underclass

I am new here, but my entire life I have understood the terms "underclass" and "upperclass" to mean fr/so and jr/sr, respectively. Why in the travelball/recruiting world are Juniors considered underclass?? Just curious if there is an answer? Is it that Seniors are the ones graduating so they are considered upperclass? Strange one for me...

Maybe travelball is referring to "rising juniors" and "rising seniors" since travel ball is typically played in the summer. In that context, rising juniors would probably still be considered underclassmen while rising seniors are considered upperclasmen.

Because the PG tourney in Fort Myers is the Underclass event for juniors - not seniors allowed.

Think of this from a college recruiting standpoint. For the most part, college recruiting looks at only two classes, the rising juniors and the rising seniors. With that in mind, you have an 'upperclass' and 'underclass'.
