The height restriction had already been waived for the 2008 Pan Am event in Guatemala.

This ruling by COPABE means the height restriction is permanently off the rule books.

A victory for common sense, and for the folks at USA Baseball who built a case for the removal of the rule and lobbied other countries for months to get it done.

With a larger population base than the other nations in COPABE, the height rule always favored the USA competitively (the addition of one 6'4" fireballer from say, Brazil, is a great equalizer!). So kudos to the guys at USA Baseball for doing the right thing for the sport and getting this done.
