COPABE Baseball, the governing body of International Baseball, announced that they are waiving height restrictions at the 14&U baseball level. That opens it up to all players born in 1994 and 1995. Good news doughnutman.
Good news and bad news ncball. Now I have to learn about the USA programs. Since I only have limited memory anymore I guess I will have to delete some stuff.
What to get rid of, spaghetti recipe or wife's birthday?
The height restriction had already been waived for the 2008 Pan Am event in Guatemala.
This ruling by COPABE means the height restriction is permanently off the rule books.
A victory for common sense, and for the folks at USA Baseball who built a case for the removal of the rule and lobbied other countries for months to get it done.
With a larger population base than the other nations in COPABE, the height rule always favored the USA competitively (the addition of one 6'4" fireballer from say, Brazil, is a great equalizer!). So kudos to the guys at USA Baseball for doing the right thing for the sport and getting this done.
