Win or lose it is definitely worthwhile to be part of it.  My son (CNT) loved visiting new countries, learning new cultures, long bus rides, hotels, fans, and bonding with some of the best amateur baseball players in the USA.  More important though is now there is the opportunity for nationwide recognition and accolades for the players.  This single event was probably the most important step in his baseball journey so far.

My son attends a winter hitting clinic ran by Gregg Ritchie, their hitting coach.  Do you know if they will be televising any of the games?

So...about 6 or 7 years ago, my son and I were on a Subway train from Queens to Manhattan after watching Mets vs Pirates at Citi Field. It was really late and not many people on the train.  I realized the man sitting across from us was Ritchie (he had a Pirates MLB lanyard attached to his backpack) and I struck up a conversation. Coach Ritchie talked to my 9 year old son and I about hitting so intently that he missed his hotel stop.  He got off the train with us, had my son demo his swing and gave him a quick lesson past midnight in the bowels of Grand Central Station.  Coach did a great thing for two strangers that won’t soon be forgotten.  We are die hard Mets fans but were Pirates fans that weekend and certainly Gregg Ritchie fans for life.  Tell we said thanks, again!

That is a great story, IndyBall. I passed it on to his wife last night, and she loved it! She is going to share it with Gregg once he gets back from Panama. It a cherry on top, after his team winning the gold. I am sure he will be touched by you remembering that experience and taking the time to share it with the community. Gregg is a great teacher, and my son loves his clinic. Their whole family is wonderful.
