Hello,

Can anyone say where USAToday gets their stats?

They are not even close to MaxPreps (which are somewhat off due to the coach not entering a couple of games).

USA Today is so far off even MaxPreps that the source cannot be the same.

If anyone has contact information to correct these large mistakes would love to have it.

Do schools look at these incorrect numbers and take them as gospel?

At least for our son's team they are way way off (100's of points off).

It is very competitive out there

and to imagine a HS player missing an opportunity due to such incorrect data would be really sad.

Perfect Game's rankings and data are far more accurate and you hope, weighted more.

Thank you.

I understand the frustration - but it really doesn't matter except to you.

If your son es fortunate to play college ball, you'll read stories that you know are inaccurate and that you don't like.  If he's fortunate to play pro ball -  multiply the college experience x 10.

It just doesn't matter really.

My advice?  Let it go.

Just x10?!?!?!

Catcherdad- Don't worry about it. High school stats mean virtually nothing.

Catcherdad,

What stats are you talking about that are so far off? Can you provide a link?

I'd suspect PG's regular season HS stats were pretty foul too. Its an enormous expense to provide stats on over 15,000 teams, unless those teams are submitting the data. Just a wild guess here, is that PGs accuracy on their events where they do the scorekeeping and data entry is excellent though.

Thank you JH and just baseball. You are correct, might make those percentages x 10,000 and x 1,000,000 for college and pros respectively.

Others have said the same as you.  A college coach educated us recently on the difference between HS and college stats, etc.

Will say PG stats have been accurate in our individual experience.

A roughly 200 point incorrect difference in batting average with USA Today vs. reality and even MaxPreps.....

Frustrating to see something online so wrong about any player, let alone your son and wanted to vent.

Stats, a great thing about this site is asking anonymous questions without feeling foolish, my son and I are wiser for the knowledge we learned here.

If you did the book and entered the stats where we live, am sure accuracy would not be an issue.

Sadly you do not. I am sure to lose a debate on this issue so will not enter one.
