My 2012 attended this as both a catcher and a pitcher. Approximately 20 catchers worked out along with an estimated 70 pitchers. Wide discrepancy of talent as you would guess. Results have not been posted as of yet.

Per literature distributed by the USBA, several dozen scouts and college coaches were there (9 D-I, 3 D-II, 27 D-III, 5 NAIA, and 7 JUCOs. Also listed were 4 scouting services and scouts from 9 MLB franchises. However, in one puzzling twist, University of Northern Iowa's coach was listed as in attendance. If I'm not mistaken, UNI no longer has a baseball program. Makes you wonder about who was really there.
I have serious concerns with this showcase.

As Milt said this was a very packed house. Actually 80 pitchers and 24 catchers. He is also correct in his observation of the Northern Iowa coach being listed as in attendance when the program no longer exists. I found discrepancies with several coaches listed who are no longer at the schools they were listed with.

My son received a call from a recruiting agency scout advising he was throwing 82. I see the results posted online today and they show his top speed in the low 70's. I also see one of the top speed kids hitting low 80s and I know that kid throws mid 80s consistently.

With 80 kids throwing 12 pitches each I'm sure it's tough to have a gun on each pitch to get their best speed. But they announce what they are throwing. You would hope they would record the fastballs and not the change ups.
In all fairness I can't say that this was a total waste of $ as there were a lot of scouts / coaches attending so the kids did actually perform in front of plenty of eyes. They all keep their own stats so if they liked what they saw on their guns I imagine they will reach out to prospects.

I emailed the USBA and got an immediate response advising that they would change Mood Kid's speed on the results page. While I appreciate that, it really begs the question as to where exactly are they coming up with their numbers. The other kid I mentioned was hitting 85 per one of the scouts and he is posted at 81. That dad got a response from USBA that they had two guns going. But again they offered to change the posted speed.

I realize that the boys still got "seen" which is the point of a showcase. The scouts have them in their books at whatever speeds they recorded. But I think it is damaging to post wrong info. I'm sure there are coaches that could not make this showcase and pull up the results looking for a prospect or two and they aren't going to be looking at someone throwing 73.
