I was at a game yesterday and saw the umpires throw out all but 2 bats between the 2 teams! This falls on the coaches to both play by and enforce the rules. The coaches have no excuse for this....Players and parents should have been informed of the rule changes before the season started and players should not even be allowed to use illegal bats in practice.
It will be easier next year with the new BBCOR standard being passed down to high school.

The whole thing is a total debacle. The umpires check the bats and ask the Head Coach for the list. Then they try and decide what's in and what's out. Are they really dumb enough (or gullible enough) to assume that the Head Coach could not doctor the list? C'mon man.......
I am confused here regarding this matter. My son is using an Easton Surge like others on his team. The bats have been checked by the umpires prior to his games and they have been allowed. The bat has the BESAR certification stamped on it.It does not appear on the NFHS approved bat list.
I thought it was only 100% composite bat were illegal. That why we bought the Surge and stopped using a Miken last year. I also bought a BBCOR TXP Omaha for Metro ball this summer. I first saw the NFHS bat list because of our metro team coach informing the team this past fall.
I know that Easton Stealth has many models which are BESAR certified. IS it only 100% composite bats not being allowed, or is there a bigger problem with the certification of the bats ?

I think suspending the AD and forfeiting the season is a bit harsh. The AD passes the information on to the coach and it has to be his responsibility to make sure all equipment is safe and legal. To ask the AD to check all lacrosse sticks, helmets, bats and helmets before every game is asking a bit much....Although the AD is ultimately responsible, it has to fall on the coach. Forfeiting the game could be an option, but the officials are supposed to approve the equipment as well.
The NFHS list is a list of legal composites...it does not include legal bats that are not composite. Some officials are clearly mistaken to believe that only bats on that list are legal. This has to be corrected.

It's simple. Find your bat. If its on one of these lists its legal; if it is not on one of these lists its illegal. All coaches and umpires should be aware and have the list with them. No excuses at this level. It's their job! So far, seems that most do. A few don't and are making a fiasco out of this.
