It was just announced during the Braves/Dodgers game this afternoon that MLB history was made at last nights Braves/Dodgers game.

Are you interested in knowing? Is the suspense killing you?

Apparently Bobby Cox and Joe Torre started Coaching in MLB in 1978. Last night marked the longest (31yrs) that these 2 coaches have coached and not faced each other during that time span until then. They broke Frank Robinson and Jack McKeon's record of 30yrs.

WHY DO WE CARE ABOUT SUCH USELESS RECORDS AS THIS?

With that being said, what other useless stats or records do you hear and just go....HUH?

We care because PEDs don't affect this outcome. Wink
The 1996 World Series jumped into my mind as well, but that's not all.

The very first year they had interleague play, they matched up the two eastern divisions, the two central divisions, and the two western divisions. And that repeats every three years.

Cox's Braves no doubt faced Torre's Yankees in interleague play.

So, not just stupid stats, but not-so-sharp announcers in this case.

Actually, it is the producers that put together those stats and then throw them at the announcers in a note or through their headset during the game. The announcers very rarely get a heads up on what stuff the producers come up with before the game to check it out.

The talking heads spew it, so the error gets attributed to them, mostly incorrectly. Someone got their butt chewed pretty good over that one I'll bet. Talking heads don't like to look bad.
