... feedback.

Kid plays catcher. Frequently team mates or a coach will pick his nice A2000 or A2K glove and or helemt and gear to catch a pull pen or something,, or warm up a pitcher.

In the past one coach shoved his hand in the catchers glove and ripped the thumb loop. Other years his glove became the team catchers glove and was an XL, very stretched out by the end of the summer.

So gloves are used and abused...gear is wet and sweat form others.. just a little concerned for the gear and respect.

Is it unreasonable for me to think his equipment should not be donated to the team or for anyones use. (In an emergency - no problem.)

I am a single parent and can barely afford to pay for the team fees plus providing good equipment for my kid. How should this be handled.

Other kids and coaches should always ask if they want to use his equipment. And there should be no pushback if he says no.

This is the second reason we do not spend much money on kids equipment. First reason is my kid is only 9.

Regarding how to handle it, Depends on your boy's age. If he is old enough, let him handle it. If not, speak to the coach yourself and explain the situation.
In todays environment of nicer equipment I do not think it is unreasonable to not allow others to use your sons gear. My middle son catches, hates it when others use he shins, because he always has to re-adjust for the right fit, chest protector, no problem, glove....if they absolutely have to but I prefer not...face mask...no, again it is a personal fit plus sweat from someone else face rubbing on your kids face, not so good. Batting helmet ...uh, no, again, hygene issues. bat no probelm, anyone can swing as long as its under warranty(lol)

I know a lot of parents can't afford some euipment but the team or league should provide a set of everything. Most kids on Travel teams have their own stuff anyway.

A big NO one that. Each kid should be using their own equipment. Especially gloves and helmets for sanitary reasons. Get your own gear or use the gear the league provides. There's no reason to be using somebody elses.

The worst is people shaming bench players to loan out their gear to starters just because they're on the bench and won't be using them at the time. That's a complete lack of respect.

And if a kid chooses not to lend out his equipment, thewn that should be respected and the conversation is over.

My son has only yelled at me once regarding something baseball related and that was when I absentmindedly put his glove on while we were chatting in his room one night. You would have thought I had wrecked his car.

He also caught up until high school...his rule was you can use my catchers gear and even my bat (in a pinch) but don't touch my gloves!

Bat - gets shared. Used to bother me but I let it go years go.

Hockey style mask - gets used every now and then by other player if my son is getting suited up between innings and someone else is warming up pitcher.

Batting helmet - gets shared occasionally.

Mitt - other people do not touch this. When we fly somewhere for baseball my son holds it in his hand. Seriously, don't touch the boys mitt.
I would not share glove-that's like cleats-personal.Tell him to hide it in bag when he's not using it. Bats occas sharing is ok. Sounds like the coach/team is cheap. If it gets broken or torn definately go to coach and explain financial situation and ask him to help with replacement cost. What are they going to do stop having him catch? If he's good they won't.
