Just a general question for all. Does you V coach basically tell the JV coach who he wants to play and what if the JV coach disagrees? Does the JV and V practice together. Just wondering what other programs do. Also, at NAIA schools do all practice together since they don't have a restriction on the number of players like the NCAA schools do. I can see benefits and issues both ways.

Varsity coaches generally let the jv coach have the lineup card. If he has a guy he wants to send down to get some AB's he will expect that kid to play. If jv and v coach disagree they work it out or the jv coach finds somewhere else to coach the next season. JV and varsity practicing together depends on the number of players and coaches. Many do and many do not. No real set standard for that.
Thanks just curious on what other do. I find it interesting on what other programs do.

Are you talking HS or college?
I put it out there for both son is in high school but just wondering for both. His high school JV and V do not practice together once they get outside but even somewhat separate when inside. I find it interesting how different coaches go about it. There is some conflict in our coaching staff right now. So just wondering.
I mainly find it interesting to know which typically has better results. Not saying either way is better. What do the really good high school programs do? Is it more dependent on the coaches. I don't know just interesting.
For the most part the JV coach had control of his lineup. However, I was told the JV coach was instructed to move my son from short to center the second half of the season. In 8th grade the varsity coach asked/told the middle school coach to have my son catch a game he would attend. The best JV players sometimes practiced with the varsity. My son and one other practiced with the varsity a couple of times as 8th graders.
Son's HS always makes the playoffs but far from a power. V HC runs it all as I understand it. Knows who is pitching and what lineup is for every game. Practice at same time but son says normally JV is in the cage when they are on the field and vice versa. A rare scrimmage from time to time.
