Do a search here as this one has been discussed a few times. They are generally at the bottom of the ACC along with Maryland. Of course UVA and UNC are just 2 of a handful of very good baseball programs in the ACC. Of course it is a D1 school; best to look at whole situation and possiblities - of course I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater - if you son ends up there and enjoys the baseball and the school then it's great! You know his grades, likes and dislikes, abilities (as in interests other than baseball and girls), etc. Of course I would say like most large schools that cater to lots of interests, there are lots of good looking young women there - and of course that can be a plus or a minus depending on the individual.

I am extremely familiar with Virginia Tech and the baseball program. My oldest son played there and I have anoher son who was recruited by the current staff. My wife and I both graduated from Virginia Tech, along with our daughter-in-law.

Pete Hughes and Dave Turgeon are great coaches who will have the Hokies winning in short order. Last year's record was very good, although it is true they did not qualify for the ACC tournament. That should change next year. At the end, VT defeated UVa 2 out of 3 just before UVa roared through the ACC tournament and NCAA regionals on the way to the CWS.

With entry into the ACC a short five years ago, baseball has benefited from higher visibility and far greater resources (although the higher level of competition brought with it a period of adjustment). English Field is a very compelling facility that has just been given major improvements. More are to come.

Hughes was just offered the job at Washington and instead accepted a substantial contract extrension to stay at VT, where the football machine has enough dollars rolling in to keep things moving in the right direction.

The campus is among the most beautiful in the nation and the school is ranked among the top 50 public universities in America. If your son has a chance to go there and accepts, it is unlikely he will be disappointed, although the competition for playing time is getting tougher rather than easier.

(1) Va Tech is a great school academically. Player must be prepared to play ball and study--period.

(2) Va Tech is a beautiful school--campus is stunning.

(3) Va Tech offers wonderful big-campus life of big time ACC football and basketball.

(4) Va Tech baseball offers up and coming program with a fabulous big time schedule.

(5) Va Tech is part of a small community, so don't expect any "bright lights, big city" stuff.

(6) Va Tech is, all around, a great opportunity for a big time player with good academic ability and study skills who wants to play in the ACC.
Amen to all of the above. I played football there in the mid-1970's and still get goosebumps when I walk across campus. It is a stunningly spirit-filled campus where the comfort level for students is extremely high. Students and alumni are rabid supporters of the sports programs-ESPN to this day acknowledges that Tech wrote the script for how to show up and support your school on Gameday (ESPN football show), and it's one of their favorite places to visit.

It's simply a special and wonderful place.

And it always beats UVA in football.
