I like Bobby V. However, I'm not convinced this is the best situation for all parties concerned. You have a new/young GM, an old Club President (Luchino)and a potential manager that has been around the block a few times in the US and Japan. They have not worked together previously.

Contrast that with Dale Sveum who was previously with the Red Sox, Theo and jed Hoyer...all are with the Cubbies now. In addition, I think Red Sox ownership has recently taken a "stupid pill" and alientated their fans. If I was Bobby V, I would stay away, far away. THis is going to take a special manager, and I'm not convinced that person is available or alive. Wink
Personality wise Valentine is not a fit for Red Sox management. But it is very common when one kind of personality fails (easy going Francona) teams flip flop to the other kind of personality (more intense Valentine). Valentine tends not to last long with teams. But the Red Sox have a window of opportunity with the existing roster. Valentine's job would be to kick their tails to the next level.

John Farrell has two years left on his contract with the Jays. Had the Sox known what was going to happen he probably would have remained as pitcing coach one more year. If Valentine is hired look for it to be a short term solution to waiting for Farrell.

There could be a play written: Waiting for Farrell by Josh Beckett.
