I've been a Vandy fan my whole life (dad is a huge Vandy fan). So long before Corbs started building his empire. You have noooo idea how funny it is to hear someone refer to that tiny school in the juggernaut SEC as Goliath. Especially since Vandy is a third the size of Fullerton. They have always been much more of a David. I guess that just further adds to Corbin's legacy that he's changed the perception so much.

Scotty83,

Agreed.  They are Goliath in college baseball & academics but still David in just about everything else in SEC athletics.  I have two very good friends who played tennis there (many years ago), and they've told me of the *ss whoopings they got in the SEC every year.  Credit goes to Corbin and the AD for building a national champion.  From all indications, they run a program the way it should be run.

However, it is hard to cheer for someone who is lucky AND good. Sorry, Vandy fans but if mother nature intervenes and saves you from an almost certain loss, that is a gift from the Baseball Gods.   Acknowledge it and cherish it.  UVA is another lucky and good team....they've got two rabbits feet in their back pockets.  There are individuals on UVA that I know and follow very closely, and I (secretly) cheer for.  It could be a repeat matchup of the "lucky and good ones"  in the finals.  We'll see this week.

Well, there is the $4+ billion endowment, the SEC football money, etc. vs. Fullerton, with no football, no sports revenues to speak of, and a commuter state school with extremely limited financial resources....

hahaha true but vanderbilt tends to spend their money on research and less on sports than most schools. I wouldn't be suprised if they had one of the lowest baseball budgets of any school in the tournament. Maybe with the exception of Corbin's salary but it wasn't that big when he got there and I'd say he's earned any raises he's gotten. Their big advantage is the academic standard to get into Vandy in the first place is higher than the NCAA standard to receive academic scholarships. So basically Vandy can have 35 on a full monetary ride. Something Corbin seems to have taken advantage of better than other high academic schools.

It was a great finish to the Vandy game...but I HATED to see the Cal State pitcher not be able to finish his gem on Sunday......always hate it when a game has to be finished the next day due to weather, especially when a pitcher is on a roll.  Vandy did what it had to do, but I don't think you would have had the same finish if the Cal State starter was able to continue his Sunday domination.
