The velocities are now posted on the tournaments home page via a link for insider level subscribers. Has anyone that has seen these think that there are could be mistakes or inaccuracies?

The reason why I ask is that at one of the fields, South Cobb HS, we were at the readings on the college scout guns 3-4 of them) were quite a bit slower (4-5 mph) than what PG recorded and posted on several pitchers. I also heard the opposite from a caoch who played at another location (6-4-3 Complex). Same pitcher at 6-4-3 was 10 mph faster two days later!

With the amount of money teams and families spend to get to this event every effort should be made to calibrate these guns maybe a couple of times a day. All it takes is a bad velo to turn off a school or question durabilty injury, etc...

My son pitched at two different high school fields; at both fields it seems the PG gun was upstairs in the press box while the college coaches were gunning kids from right behind home plate. It seems to me that this would make a difference. He also pitched at UVA a few weeks prior and every pitch speed showed up on the score board. For pitches way off the plate, the gun registered in the 40mph range, for which I inferred that you can't get a good read if the gun isn't properly positioned.
Scouts and coaches gun players from everywhere, it doesn't have to be right behind homeplate.

Aren't readings usually off up not down one or two miles per hour.

I have never heard of 10mph off, first time, so I think that someone didn't get the velo readings that they were expecting to get. Some people think its just to get the high velo, it's also used in comparing your other pitches to the FB. I mean a pitcher at a showcase can be THROWING to acheive that velo but is he pitching?

It really doesn't matter, if a coach likes you, and really wants you, he'll check for himself.

LHPMom,

The PG reps not only register pitch speeds at these events, but they're also keeping official score, and taking notes for the PG Blogs during tournament play. I think that's the biggest reason they are stationed in the press boxes?
From the Stalker manual: "The most common mistake made with all radar guns is trying to clock targets at angles. All radar guns work on the Doppler principle and need to clock objects moving directly at or away from the gun. Clocking at an angle with a stationary radar will result in angle error, and the gun will display a speed that is LOWER than the actual speed."

So if you are higher, lower, or off to the side of the trajectory of the ball, you can get inaccurate readings.
