I do all my instructional stuff with it. I got that model because it was the only mid-price one I could find with an external microphone hookup feature. All my work with it has been close-up (within 20 feet or so). These days, most cameras do a pretty good job.
I definitely would recommend a tripod though. Cameras are all small/light these days and if you are filming from a distance, you're going to get a lot of shaking. Use a tripod.
