I have been invited to bring a team to Virginia Tech the weekend of 10/29, it will be an underclassmen team mostly of 2012s maybe a couple 2013s. We are going to play 2 games on Saturday and 1 on Sunday.

Driving it!

The roster will be mostly guys from the Showcase League program but its possible we may need a few guys positionally to make sure we are covered. If you want to send me an email if you're interested things could shake out where a spot or two could free up.

I'm not saying I know that there will be consequences to playing on college fields, but hate to find out later that it effects the kids. From what I hear it is a new crackdown policy from the ncaa. We just played on a college field last week and our coach is changing the schedule going forward from this week. The club was to play at pepperdine, usc, and possible uc riverside. But for now that is changed. Feel free to do with the information as you wish. Good luck.
BOF/CELTDAD,
I am sure SMAN has done his homework knowing him- he is pretty good at what he does. Yet, I am concerned. Anytime there is any chance the players eligibility would be impacted by an issue then I think it is worth looking into. As I want my own answers I will make some contacts with some college coaches to verify or deny this.
Even if the NCAA is cracking down on something like this I can't see how they would punish the players. It seems it would be more of a problem for the institutions. If the NCAA looks at these games as technical "tryouts involving future prospects" that would be an infraction on the institution itself.

The Institutions should know the rules and not the individual players or parents (for that matter, even the well informed program director). Each school has it's own NCAA Compliance director and nothing happens on any of their properties that is not approved by compliance.

A few years back the NCAA took the skills part of showcases away from D1 campuses. It was still allowed at lower levels and the games could still be played there. So many showcases were run with skills off site and the games on campus.

The entire "MLB Scout Team" is fairly new the last few years and I'm sure the NCAA will sooner or later address their concerns with them. On your final elegibilty questions from the NCAA there are questions regarding who you played for, whether your paid or played for free etc etc.

The 2 factions, MLB and NCAA are on different sides of the table and it's only a matter of time. As far as I know, travel teams can and have been playing on college campuses. If there is an issue with "Scout Teams", I am unaware and unfamiliar.
Well the boys swept the weekend down at VA Tech, not bad considering we didn't bring a single senior with us.

Some of our pictures are up on the Showcase League facebook I'll be putting some video together too.

They played three games, had two seperate tours, visited the memorial, walked through the tunnel out onto the football field and slapped the Hokie stone... not bad.
