I am new posting here but have learned and enjoyed a lot from reading.

My son is in his senior year, LHP, and is looking at several schools for fall. He isn't DI skill level (yet) and is weighing some options - an excellent DI university with lots of club/intramural ball vs one of several smaller DIIIs where he could make the team.

My question: We will be visiting one of the DIII campuses this week and meeting with the coach. What are the questions son should be sure to ask and info to come away with that might help him make his choice?

...you have certainly come to the right place. My son plays D-III and here are some questions that we were advised to ask.
1. How is the team chosen
2. How long is the tryout period
3. How many players are typically at tryouts
4. Does the entire team try out every year.

One thing we found, is that some schools bring in "recruits" by the boatload (call it over-recruiting--and there are some great threads on it, as well).

As with any school, certainly ask, regardless of level:
1. The Strength and conditioning program-who runs it and how involved is it
2. Academic support services
3. How the coaches place players for summer ball.

I am sure many others will chime in.
