Thanks for posting the VYPE article. I don't know much about VYPE but it is always interesting if not amusing as to how such outlets determine the ranking of the teams as well as players to watch. I am familiar with some of the teams and players and for the most part they are good teams and good players. No matter what they post some folks will agree and others will disagree with the conclusions. As we all know it is ultimately decided on the field. That is why I say let the games begin and may the best team and best players prove that they are trully the best. Wishing all of the teams on and off the list and all of the players on and off the list a injury free and succesful year.
Colleyville always fields a good team. They have some very good bats on the team. As I have posted many times before, I really think this year is going to be a hard year to project how team and players will perform because of the new bats. The BBCOR bats is the x factor, just look what it did to the college game. Home runs were down significantly and this is with college age players. I beleive home runs this year will be almost non existent because the highschool players are by and large smaller and weaker. Teams that relied on the longball and/or played in small parks will loose a significant advantage. The players and teams that have pitchers that throw strikes and not walk players will have an advantage. Teams that are fundamentally sound, play good defense, execute bunts and hit and runs and are able to draw walks will have an advantage. Guys who can hit for average, are athletic to chase down balls in the gaps and ground balls in the infield and can steal bases will stand out. Because of the changes in the bats we may see some surprises in terms of what teams emerge and what players stand out.

I disagree about HR's becoming non-existent...I saw a total of 4 HR's in 5 scrimmages and this is the time of year when pitchers are ahead of hitters and the weather is cold or at least cool.

Once the wind kicks up from the south and it gets warmer, I think the good 5A teams will hit bombs once every 3-4 games. What the BBCOR bats do is expose the bad hitters...good hitters are still going to find a way to smack the ball hard.

Teams with pitchers who throw strikes and play good defense are going to hold an advantage but so are those teams stacked with players who get on base or are good hitters.
Maybe non existent was not the right word to use. Let me restate it this way, home runs will drop off significantly. I realize that Texas highschool ball players are special but if California high school ball players dropped significantly and the home runs dropped significantly at the college level it is likely it will also happen in Texas. The fact that you saw 4hrs in 5 scrimmages and assuming each of the scrimmages was only 7 innings may have been a statistical exception. I am not disagreeing that good hitting teams will still occasionally hit bombs every 3 to 4 games but based on say a 30 game season(tournaments, district and non district games) that is roughly 10 home runs. In the past it was not that uncommon to see a player hit double digit home runs with the steroid bats. I trully beleive that the mark of a power hitter will be measured by extra base hits, more specifically doubles. Good hitters will hit the ball hard but the ball will not travel as fast off the bat(purpose of BBCOR). Thus the players will have a better opportunity than last year to get to the ball. Can't predict the defense ability of the players on the field but it is likely more balls will be caught. Just my opinion.
VYPE does a great job providing high school sports some air time. Unfortunately how the team ranks and player profiles is byproduct of school or parent marketing. One example is I'm aware of one parant you hired a marketing consultant for their son...yes, he made the list. Note, there are many of the teams and players that are well deserved on the list.
this seems to be a joke. obviously these writers dont take the time to watch some ball or talk to people who might know a little something about good players in the area.

they missed so many good players. players that have committed that were district mvp's, defensive player of the year and great all district players in many of these districts.

VYPE seems to have a predjudice that doesn't involve players from certain classes or districts. Dallas area players seem to have the most names and time spent on. Need to look harder at players from Mid Cities and Fort Worth schools.
I can't speak for the other players, but my son has been named All District each year since he played varsity as a freshman, was All District MVP and All Area as a sophomore and has been named Under Armour Under Classman All-American last year and Rawlings/Perfect Game Senior All American Honorable Mention and Texas Region 1st team this year, and was invited to and participated in the Power Showcase Home Run Derby the past two years and pitched the All American East v. West game as well. I just wish VYPE would get the spelling of his name right. Smile I'm sure there are, however, very talented players who fly under the radar. That's unforunate. But yes he is from the DFW area but was an early commit.

15's Mom. I know your son very well. As a matter of fact my son played with your son during the summer a few years back. He is great player and more importantly a great young man. Having said that, the misspelling of his name if that is all you have to worry about you are blessed. There are so many players who are currently playing who will be ending their playing career in the next few weeks. Your son because of his great talent and work ethic will have the opportunity to play in college and probably beyond. No disrespect to VYPE but it is highly unlikely that all of the players that are listed have any where near the talent of your son. They defintely got it right when they listed him in the article. The bottom line is that the talent evaluators who really count such as those who offer scholarships and/or draft the young men already know about your son.

Just enjoy the ride, again many parents would envy you if they knew the name of your son. Good luck.
Isball: I was simply replying to the post made by Baseballdad13 which included his statement, "they missed so many good players. players that have committed that were district mvp's, defensive player of the year and great all district players in many of these districts," saying that not sure about all the others but mine did earn these awards. And why yes, I did leave a few things out. I am very pleased with his accomplishments and that he was named by VYPE and then again, when I said something about his name being misspelled it was in reponse to Spinzone's post that the magazine might have more credibilty if they could get the kids' names right and I agreed that my son's name was also misspelled. I don't buy the magazine, honestly I don't even know where you can get it. Having said that, I will say that yes, we are very blessed and know that many parents and kids would give a lot to be in his position. We take nothing for granted and he's worked very hard to be the player he is and I have tried very hard to make him the man he has become. Difficult things to do in our situation in these days and times... but GoldenRule, thank you very much, and you are all very right, the misspelling of his name is insignificant given the blessings we have in our lives; again I was simply responding to previous posts, and those are very kind words and that is one of my favorite sayings, enjoy the ride, and we are going to enjoy it for as long as God is willing and the creek don't rise. Email me who you and your son are please. Also, congratulations to all the baseball and softball players named and to all those deserving young men and women who weren't. I'll say to them what I've said to my son since he was little...no matter what comes at you, continue to work hard and do your very best because the cream rises to the top each and every time! Don't get ahead of yourself and never get bigger than yourself, always remember where you came from, and just enjoy the ride! Smile

I hate it when poster's bash parents for simply praising their kids. I love to read about their accomplishments and how they performed in recent games. It's not always easy to find a source for such detailed information. I'll bet many people have been turned off by all the haters that post here.

The haters are always easy to pick out - they are the same people that are in the stands complaining about every coaching decision and their kid's lack of playing time.

Thank you both! Yes there is quite a bit of hatorade out there, a good example of being Friday when a sign was placed in our front yard for him to see that morning from the opposing HS that said "Are you ready to lose again?" We had lost our first game in district to them earlier this season and he had pitched. Well, that didn't work well for them. But, it is what it is but he'll keep doing what he does. Good luck to all the teams as we play out the rest of district and move to playoffs.
