We just returned about a week and half ago from the session 4 of Headfirst.  I will say it was a great showcase and the access to coaches was terrific.  There was one school in particular who really liked my son.  He received an email from them while he was on the plane home.  The coach who was at the showcase stated that his ACT superscore was good enough, however, when he was communicating by email with the Head coach, he said he needs him to get his score up a few points. My son was a bit disappointed hearing that, but it is a high academic school so i am not surprised.  He is retaking the ACT in Sept. We also received another email from a school my son talked to telling him that there were a few pitchers ahead of him on their recruiting chart, but he could move up if they see him pitch again or if the others don't commit, which was also a bit disappointing, but I appreciate the honesty for sure.  Just wondering when to expect some of the other schools he talked to to reach out and wondering what anyone else's experience has been?

Last year son got introductory emails based on Headfirst as late as September.  The coaches will be getting video from Headfirst; your son could write to the ones he met, to say he enjoyed meeting them, and to express his interest.

Will he pitch again?  Do you have video of his pitching?  You can also send that to the one that wanted to see him again.  It shows interest, so why not?

You need to reach out to them at this point. While he still has time, it's definitely starting to get late. You don't want to wait around to find out it's late September and none of the schools he's interested in are getting in contact with him. Send a quick email to gauge the room.

Coach _________,

My name is ______. It was great talking to you at the Headfirst camp. I'm very interested in ______ U and was wondering if you guys were planning on attending any of the following events this fall or if you were looking for any more (insert position) in the 2020 class.

Then you send your schedule and will most likely receive a camp invite. It's up to you to determine whether it is worth it to attend based on cost, hotel, etc. If this conversation has already been had then it is time to start putting the pressure on them. Ask where you stand and what more they're looking to see/areas you can improve.

2BoysMom,

Not too surprised by the request to re-take ACT.   I think you got honest feedback from the coaches, so that sounds promising.   So, one HA school asked my son to retake the SAT, which he eventually did.   But the thing that bothered me (at the time) was the "why", because it came up out of the blue.   At that point they'd known for many months where he was with the SAT without a peep.   We'd been told everything was fine athletically and academically.   I believe they did it to help my son position himself better relative to other similar recruits,  and also to help them get another recruit so their SAT numbers balanced out.   They were looking at my son as an "academic booster" for others.   A funny thing happened on my way to the Forum….son took the SAT (improved his number 150 points) but ended up selecting an offer from another school.   So, I find it interesting that your son's RC said he was "fine" but the HC comes over the top telling him he needs a higher number.

100% agree with PABaseball that the next step may be a schedule an event synch up, or camp invite to get all coaching eyes on your son.  If you've already done that that it may be time to start putting pressure on them if you've already been through this drill.   it is mid-August and I think it is best to be very specific with coaches.....if I do this then you'll do that.  Everything has to be crystal clear if you are going to be spending time and resources on this.

Continue these recruiting dialogs with these schools, and also keep looking for new opportunities.   Keep your foot on the gas.  Good luck!

Not sure for pitchers but my older son CF had a few HA D3 contact him late August/ Early Sept (JOHN HOPKINS)  and he started to reach out to others along with contacts by coach/consultant as late as Late Oct. Or Nov. MIT asked to apply 3 days before deadline. Others in between. Went to local academic at Cal Tech. Considered AZ Fall Classic but unable to make it.

Point I am trying to make is he had most interest after he or coach/consultant initiating contact beginning mid sept. Also there still are academic showcase venues still to come to attend if offers are slow.

Again he was small  OF and not pitcher so more of who needed fast outfielders under 6'. Good luck. Still time but don't sit back and wait.

Thank you all so much.  He did a showcase in our area beginning of June and it took about 6-8 weeks for coaches to reach out so I guess I am not surprised that with Headfirst it could be as late as September.  Hoping to get his ACT score up, but right now he's at a 28 superscore and 3.8 GPA so he is good for a lot of non HA D3s in our area.  He just thinks his grades are better than what those more local schools admissions are at, even though he would qualify for a lot of academic scholarship money which is a bonus for sure for us.

We did HF session 6, so ended 4-5 days after session 4.  We know a number of kids who went.  Pitchers clearly get the most attention post-camp.   I feel bad for position players.  Very hard for them to get legit looks with so few opportunities.   My son did get a number of inquiries already, including another one yesterday.   I feel that interest that comes next week or later likely isn't as strong as coaches that showed real interest quickly or early this week.  Why would they wait to send emails in September if they really had interest?  My opinion and I could be wrong, is that you can tell in the emails who really liked him and who looked at the statistics after the event and say they saw him play and want him to come to visit the school.  Some coaches seem to cast wider nets and some will tell you how many they want in their class, how many they have left, what they liked about your son, how they see him fitting in etc.  IMO you can just tell from how the messages are worded.  No one asked about scores though.... one is running an academic pre-read (good school).    I think all schools are different.   Not sure this helps but these are my experiences as a parent post HF.  I love HF.
