Need some help! My son currently play's college baseball at a NCAA Division I school. He played His 1st year-(freshman)and 2nd year-(sophmore) year, but his 3rd year-(junior)year he decided to redshirt due to lack of playing time. This year, his 4th year-(senior)year he won a starting spot and 2 weeks before the season was to start, he broke his arm. He is out for this season(2007)
The question I have is: He redshirted his junior year, but if he medical redshirts this year, does he still have 2 years of eligibility or does the 5 year rule apply or can you request a waver to the 5-year rule per NCAA bylaw 30.6. ??????? THANKS!

I once heard that you cannot get a MRS the year after a regular RS year (possibly unless the first RS was also for Med reasons). I believe the later happened to a basketball player at my alma mater, thus allowing him a 6th year. But he couldn't apply until his eligibility had otherwise expired after the 5th year.

Don't know if that is correct, but it came from someone who should know.

I agree, check with your school and the NCAA.
