Time to wake up the baseball gods in Nevada and elsewhere!

Nevada...who are the teams to watch? Who are the players to watch? Northern Nevada...what's up? I know the snow is a problem, but how do the teams stack up in Reno area?

I'll list a few to get started in S Nevada:

Basic
Green Valley

Durango
Sierra Vista
Gorman

Cimarron
Centennial

Las Vegas
Eldorado

I think these are the teams to watch to compete to win their divisions in Vegas.

Players anyone?

In S Nevada I see Cimmarron, Centennial, and Durango out of the West. I'm not sure about the East. I've seen Las Vegas and Green Valley so far this year but it's too early to tell. I think Durango could win it all.

I agree with most of the players on your "follow" list.

In Colorado I know Kyle Winters. Good Kid. Also in Colorado, I think its Capra not Carpa. Not too sure about him.
Starzz....greetings from Southern Arizona......4A Kino Conference to be precise....John James, TJ Steele, Brian Nichols, and Sean O'Neill are the Tucson players on your list. Brian Nichols is my son....will try and keep the Sunbelt forum....from Tucson updated....and Phoenix/Scottsdale....as good newspaper reporting permits! Appreciate your enthusiasm......
I saw the Nichols kid recently at a showcase camp in Hampden Sydney VA.. The young man can play. He was without doupt the best hitter there. Great hands, bat speed, and showed some impressive gap power during BP. I also had the privalage in assisting his parents by taking Brian back to the airport and I must say I just really enjoyed our 1 1/2 hr ride and conversation. Good luck to Brian during his SR season and thanks Gail I really enjoyed the day.

Starzz....sounds like a great plan! Best wishes to your son too....I'll post weekly updates....we do have some talented kids in the Tucson area and it will be fun to keep you all advised...just wish we could have some more posters join us from Arizona, and all the Sunbelt states. I'll keep telling everyone how wonderfull this site is...and we just may get some more.....
Viewmont High in Bountiful, Utah should have a very good team this year. 5 of their kids have signed with colleges including 2 at Dixie State, the defending national NJCAA champ, and 1 at Southern Nevada who won it the year before. They also have Kelly Downs as their pitching coach. Hopefully they can put some pressure on Taylorsville and some of the other south Salt Lake County teams that have been the main strength of Utah High School Baseball.
The Tucson Cactus Classic ended yesterday, and Catalina Foothills, with John James playing (from Starzz's list) won the tournament. They are a well coached and talented team and are consistent contenders for State....loosing out last year to Chapparel HS from Scottsdale. That has pretty much been the 4A state rivalry for the past few years....Chapparel has a few players from the list also....Austin Yount (uncle Robin) and Ike Davis (dad Ron).... genetically gifted....both play for Chapparel...seniors this year....they will again be the team to beat for state title. Sabino, the school near and dear to my heart....made it to the semi-finals, loosing to Socorro HS, El Paso, TX (7-5). Catalina Foothills then defeated Socorro for the championship (5-0).

We start our conference games this week, and Sabino is ranked second, behind Foothills. It should be fun....
Hi All....I will try to drop by and give some insight on the scottsdale area of AZ(primarly Desert Mountain HS). DM started the season ranked 10th in the 5a poll and stand at 5-0 after the first 2 weeks of play. A big time matchup saturday got cancelled between DM and 4a power Chaparral in the championship of the Scottsdale QB club invite tourny. DM has a really talented class of juniors led by Mike Dufek, Jeff Fox, and Drew Buerlein. UNLV bound Reid Kelly is 2-0 with wins over Mesa High and Highland HS and Grand Canyon bound Dustin Kaats started off a little slow but then got on track against Mesa High with an absolute BOMB 3-run homer to right center. DM faces Saint Marys and their ace lefty Brian Matusz on Tues and Wed of this week and plays in the McClintock Invitational next week.
longball38....I worked at DMHS before moving to Tucson...Berger was coach then...Rice the assistant!

The Tucson papers are today predicting that Catalina Foothills will once again meet Chaparral for the 4A state finals. Another article on the Foothills also..they are predicting to take Chaparral this time....(anyone surprised?)...seems they have a lot of pitching depth this year...it should be an interesting match come May....

The predicted 5A contender for state, from Tucson, is Canyon del Oro....
It was an all Las Vegas final at the Cibola Invitational in Yuma, AZ. Durango took the honors from defending champion Centennial. Durango can sure hit the ball. They look unstoppable at this point. We'll see how they do at Centennial on Tuesday against a starter. Probable pitchers are Cichowski for Durango and Smith for Centennial. Smith is just off a complete game three hit shutout on Friday and Cichowski had an easy time on Friday.
Foothills continues to dominate in Tucson....beat us Tuesday, 9-1....John James pitched all 7 innings....and obviously...well.

They were doing something that I've not seen before.....Foothills had a player stationed right behind home plate, with a radar gun....he was holding the gun in his right hand....and signaling to their dugout with his left hand...varies signals, but obviously regarding pitches....

It started to get a little lively on our side...which is a nice way of saying a couple of parents came unglued when it became obvious to them what was going on.....the field umpire headed in to talk to the plate umpire, but at that point the Foothills kid hurried back to the dugout.....don't know if it was legal or not?
weekly update...Garcia from S Vista looked great vs Cimarron...he's hitting well also. S Valley is a solid young team...don't overlook them, they play hard. Basic looks tough with the addition of Hash and Montanyo in OF now. Durango is as projected...very good. Cimarron is coming around...still a little behind from the field re-do. Will only get better with 3 Sophmores. Silverado and G Valley will always be around at the end. Gorman looks to start hot...can they hold it together? Centennial will be tough as always, anyone see any different on Vegas teams?

Overall, there seems to be some parity in Vegas this year. Many good '05's and '06's to watch. It will be a great year as predicted...and Reno has to come to Vegas this year...

Keep it going...if I missed anyone it's because I haven't seen them play yet.
