Hey everyone,

I've been pondering the significance of walk-up songs in sports lately. You know, those tunes athletes choose to pump them up as they step onto the field or court. What makes a great walk-up song? Is it the beat, the lyrics, or the personal connection? Do you think it truly impacts performance, or is it just a fun tradition?

I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Have you ever chosen a walk-up song? If so, how did it make you feel? And for those who haven't, what song would you pick if given the chance?

Some guys pick something meaningful, some a song to get them pumped, some to be funny and stay loose. Lots of reasons. I almost forced my son in hs to choose the Immigrant Song for his pitch warm up. I stand by that song…got me ready for the game if nothing else.  This year it’s The Rooster by Alice In Chains…after 3 hard years, guessing it has meaning for him.

I've never payed to much attention to walkup song choices unless they're funny or awful. My kid never considered my opinion. In HS it was a rap tune that was mercifully short, probably because that was the only part that could be played in a public setting. I don't think they had walkups in juco, at least not a Hill...  At Arkansas he was a Friday night starter, so they played his tune at the beginning of the game for as many as 12K fans - thankfully I like that one - Geronimo, by Shane Smith and the Saints. Last year it was something by Doja Cat, thankfully not the cow song...

I feel like walkup tunes are like the kangaroo court, something parents should know exist, but have zero input on...

Son always selected his own songs in college and pro ball.  When I hear these songs years later on the radio, I think of his playing days fondly.

I want to mention:  sitting up in the "players wives, kids, and parent's suite" one summer, an almost three year old son of a player knew which player was up by the walk up song!   Amazing (to me)!
